Ibarra Rosano Design Architects was an invited participant in an ideas competition: Flip-A-Strip, co-sponsored by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) and the city of Phoenix. The premise was to confront the reality of strip malls, which hem the edges of our suburban roadways. What began as a tongue and cheek critique of car culture and demand for convenience morphed into an idea lying somewhere between an exaggeration and a potential solution.
